افسوس ہے کہ ہماری علمی بزم کی ایک اہم یادگار ڈاکٹر عبدالستار صدیقی نے گزشتہ مہینے انتقال کیا، وہ اس دور کے مشہور فاضل اور نامور محقق تھے، ان کا موضوع عربی لسانیات تھا، اس کے متعلقات علم الاشتقاق، رسم الحظ حروف و اصوات وغیرہ پر ان کی نظر بڑی دقیق تھی اور اپنی تحریروں میں اس کا بڑا اہتمام رکھتے تھے، ان کی پوری زندگی علمی و تعلیمی خدمات میں گزری، مگر لکھتے کم تھے، انھوں نے غالباً متفرق مضامین کے علاوہ کوئی مستقل تصنیف یادگار نہیں چھوڑی، مگر ان کے یہ مضامین ان کی محققانہ نظر کا ثبوت ہیں، عرصہ ہوا الٰہ آباد ہونیورسٹی کے شعبۂ عربی و فارسی کی صدارت سے ریٹائر ہوئے تھے اور الٰہ آبادی ہی میں سکونت اختیار کرلی تھی، ایک زمانہ میں ہندوستانی اکیڈمی الٰہ آباد کے رکن رکین تھے، یونیورسٹیوں اور دوسری علمی مجالس میں ان کا بڑا وقار تھا، دارالمصنفین کی مجلس انتظامیہ کے بھی رکن تھے، ان کا رہن سہن تو جدید تھا، لیکن شرافت و وضعداری اور شفقت و محبت میں مشرق تہذیب کا نمونہ تھے، ادھر کئی سال سے بالکل معذور ہوگئے تھے، آخر میں ہوش و حواس نے بھی جواب دے دیا تھا، اسی حالت میں گزشتہ جولائی میں انتقال کیا، انتقال کے وقت ۸۷ سال کی عمر تھی، مسلمانوں میں ایسے محقق اب مشکل سے پیدا ہوں گے، اﷲ تعالیٰ ان کی مغفرت فرمائے۔ (شاہ معین الدین ندوی،اگست ۱۹۷۲ء)

Emerging Trends of Ethics in Higher Educational Institutions: An Analysis of Universities Students’ Perception in Islamic Context

The basic characteristics and moral values of Islamic society include peace, harmony, brotherhood, equality, justice, respect and tolerance. Islam advises humans to spend their life according to the characteristics of Islamic society. The word ‘ethic’ brings harmony in the spiritual and physical attributes of a person. Islamic system preaches good moral values and indicates ways to avoid ill-mannered behavior. An individual with good moral values reflects good faith and blessings of Almighty Allah. But the studies show that Pakistani society and especially the youngsters are growing up without proper training & teachings about ethics and moral values. This research work aims to explain the need for ethical teachings in Islamic society. Quantitative method has been used in this study. Two hundred questionnaires have been filled by the three Universities’ students. The opinion of the students has been presented through SPSS in tabular forms and figures. According to this fieldwork, the majority of students had a lack of training related to ethical values from home to institutions, due to which we are facing ill-mannered behavior in Universities. This research work may be significant for its specific theme and research background; hence it can be used for the benefit of the policy makers, the scholars and the readers at large.

Chloroplast Genome Sequencing of Ajuga Bracteosa and its Phylogenetic Relationship in Familylamiaceae

Medicinal plants were playing an important role in our lives due to their remedial properties. Lifesaving medicines were produced by these plants. For their better use in food and medicines genomes sequencing of these medicinal plants was needed. Ajuga bracteosa is a medicinal plant in family Lamiaceae (mint family). It is a herbal plant and used in many medicines. In this research work chloroplast genome sequencing of Ajuga bracteosa was carried out by next generation sequencing technique. DNeasy plant DNA extraction kit was used for the extraction of DNA from fresh young leaves of Ajuga bracteosa. Quality and quantity of DNA was evaluated using agarose gel electrophoresis and uDrop plate of Multiskan GO spectrophotometer. DNA was lyophilized before shipment to Novagene, Hong Kong, a commercial NGS facility. Sequencing was done using Illumina HiSeq 2500 instrument, using PE150 run, and approx. 4Gb data was produced. Quality of short reads was checked using SolexaQA tool. Short reads were mapped back to Ajuga reptans chloroplast genome downloaded from NCBI. Mapping was visualized using Tablet tool, which attested to high coverage depth of chloroplast genome. The genome was de novo assembled using Velvet tool, and several velvet runs were performed by changing kmer values. Assembled contigs from these Velvet runs were imported in Geneious tool and used to generate full length chloroplast genome. The assembled genome size was 150,373 bp, divided in usual LSC, SSC and IRs. Overall genome structure and gene synteny matched to Ajuga reptans chloroplast genome. Phylogenetic analysis showed divergence of Ajuga bracteosa from its relatives in family Lamiaceae. This study showed intra specific and interspecific relationship within family Lamiaceae. So, this work will help the researchers in proper identification and differentiation of Ajuga bracteosa from the other plants of same family.
